Portable appliance testing commonly referred to as PAT testing is a systematic approach to ensuring your portable appliances are safe for continued use. A competent and trained person needs to make the decision of whether the item is safe and uses a variety of assessment methods.
We have recently seen self-study PAT testing courses online and our opinion is that although self-study online learning is great for certain subjects we feel PAT testing is not one of them. We do offer tutor-led live online PAT testing courses that take a full day and has practical elements included – this is a great compromise between self-study and full face to face training.
A very common error is people call PAT testing PAC testing. PAT testing is Portable Appliance Testing.
We will run our PAT testing course anywhere, we regularly go to client sites in England, Scotland, and Wales. We also have run courses in Europe for some of our customers.
PAT testing is the process of ensuring the appliance is safe, the process that we need to follow to make the decisions that an appliance is safe could be done by most people. To do PAT testing you need to complete some training and be assessed as competent. Most people after such training could become a PAT tester.
Of course, all successful learners will receive a certificate, if you complete the competency course, you will receive a certificate from us (TTS) and this is accredited bt UKRS. if you complete the City and Guilds version of the course, you will receive a City and Guilds certificate. There is no requirement for one over the other.
A quick search about PAT testing and just about everyone claims to be a “PAT testing expert”. Any PAT testing course worth doing will follow the IET Code of Practice (Currently 5th edition). Please ensure your “PAT Testing Expert” courses follows this.
A PAT tester is the test and measurement instrument needed to complete the full PAT test. It measures levels of resistance and it needs to be checked at suitable intervals. Most manufacturers and the IET Code of Practice state that this should be annual. We can arrange for your PAT tester to be calibrated if you require.
I am Electrical Engineer and I found the course was very informative and enjoyable.
Thank you for a very enjoyable course, the instructor was extremely knowledgeable, and the pace and the level of the course was just right.
Your tutor Ian is a *STAR*. He had 3 very nervous electrically uneducated students. His manor and approach was brilliant. The theory side was educational and delivered in an easy to understand way. We have owned a Fluke 6500 tester for nearly a year and were still confused how to work it. Once again Ian knew the machine its functions and how to work it. This helped with the practical side & with his guidance it was a breeze. Our 17th Edition Electrician recently took the PAT City & Guilds course [CG2377] and struggled. Your course was some much easier to understand & looking back it would have been a much better course for him to been on. Once again, thanks for all you help and assistance getting us all to a standard and eager to go into the World of PAT testing. Once again a BIG Thanks.
