Refreshers, expiry and getting caught out
What happens if my certificate has already expired?
You cannot refresh it. An expired SMSTS means the full five-day course again, and an expired SSSTS means the full two days. That is a scheme rule rather than ours, and it catches people out every week — if yours is inside its last year, book the refresher now.
How far ahead should I book a refresher?
Give yourself a few months. Refresher courses fill up, and the deadline is the expiry date on your certificate rather than the date you got round to booking.
Which do I need — SMSTS or SSSTS?
Roughly: if you run the site, SMSTS. If you supervise a team on it, SSSTS. If you are unsure, tell us your job title and what you are responsible for and we will point you at the right one — there is no advantage to us in selling you the longer course.
Do I need a Green Card course to get a CSCS card?
The one-day Health & Safety Awareness course is the training element. Card applications also involve the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test — ask us and we will explain how the two fit together for the card you are after.
