LEVEL 2 AWARD IN MANUAL HANDLING (SAFE MOVING AND HANDLING) QCF
By training an employee to achieve a manual handling qualification employers have an effective way of ensuring that they have taken the necessary due diligence to ensure their staff are adequately trained.
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations do not set any weight limits for lifting and carrying loads and amendments in 2002 now require employees to have adequate or appropriate knowledge or training in order to make assessments to judge whether safe moving is possible. The regulations apply to almost all work environments from offices to care homes and factories. There are different risks associated with different sectors and this regulated qualification offers learning outcomes which are suitable for all. The qualification includes:
- The reasons for safe moving and handling
- The importance of risk assessment
- The principles of safe manual handling
- The safe application of manual handling skills
WHO NEEDS THIS QUALIFICATION?
All employees who have to carry out any manual handling activities at work, including both industrial and office workers.
WHY IS THIS TRAINING IMPORTANT?
Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to employees – this includes suitable training.
- Identify and understand the risks associated with manual handling
- Learn the value of risk assessment and how to apply it
- Make recommendations to manage risks
- Apply the principles of safer handling to a range of everyday manual handling tasks.

Successful candidates will achieve:
HABC Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF)
Learners must achieve a score of at least 10 and also practically demonstrate the application of the correct techniques as indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit to achieve this qualification.
